A hui hou

this webthings challenge was fun for the most part. i will be honest, i started this challenge just to get the mp3 player, and possibly win the Wii. since i started though, it has been enlightening. i learned about so many different things that OCL offers as well as the internet. i think the library should continue w/ ListenNJ. i have shared things like youtube with my friends. i knew about podcasts, so i continue to use things for podcasts. however, i learned about vodcasts (videocasts). thank you for introducing me and opening my eyes to various new things.

PLAY

the habit i find easiest of the 7 1/2 habits of highly successful lifelong learners is habit 7 1/2. PLAY. i always love a good time. playing is sometimes the best way to learn. you are interacting with others, and like i said interaction w/ others is great learning experience.
i would consider habit 2 to be the hardest for me. at least as time has gone on, i have slacked off when it comes to my education. i dont put as much effort into it as i should/could. however, my mind is always looking to learn more about the world i live in, the people around me and across the world. so i live with an open mind, and like to take as many opportunities to learn outside the classroom realm.

ListenNJ

idk if i did this correctly (for my blog). i have 2 books checked out, oliver twist and sly stories. i was surprised to see that this service is available. getting a book read w/o going to the library or book store and having some read it for you is pretty cool. and it doesnt cost anything...even better. my one question for this is if it can be done w/ books, can it be done w/ cds and movies. if so, it would cut down the theft that surrounds us here at the library w/ books, cd's, and DVD's that go "missing". not only that, but it may bring in more patrons to access a DVD from home, much like the OnDemand movies that you have to pay for.

PodCast

http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/i_video/main500251.shtml?id=1903461n

this podcasting wasnt so easy as it usually is. i have some experience w/ podcasts, yet when i tried to explore odeo, it wasnt happening. i dont know if it was the computer, but it just would not open odeo for me. it took forever to "load", and when it did, it took me to a completely different site. so i used trusty ol' google to search "beachvolleyball podcasts" and came up with this wonderful CBS podcast.

Ehhh....Whats up Doc?.....Thats Google Doc To You.

i'm not sure exactly what i would use Google Docs for if i have Word. it isinteresting b/c as much as i use google, i never really explored it to know that they had Google Documents and other stuff as well. perhaps if i didnt have microsoft word, this would help out a great deal and i wouldnt have to go out and pay $80+ for Microsoft Office. thanks for the Google insight.

Before & After (wheel of fortune fans) - me & you......tube

Jersey BADA BING!!!! can you handle it????

9 teen

Welcome to The Web 2.0 Awards. We are proud to present the winner of this years sports category.....(drum roll) (crowd awaits dramatically). iStats Fitness. i like this b/c you can track your workout at the gym or any exercise and monitor your weight and what not to see how you are progressing.

sand in my shorts from the sandbox.....

i completed thing 17 (at least i believe i did) and it was interesting. im not sure how it would really help at work. its more like an interactive bulletin board that can be added to on a regular basis. but it can keep co-workers up to date on people in other places (branches in our case). it was easy to access and easy to use. i like how they have it where you can simply cut/paste the url to link certain websites (our blogs).

thing 12, part 2

Rocky Stairs - closest library - Toms River

WorldCat definitely is useful for myself, as well as other patrons (my opinion). it gives you the opportunity to look up books, movies, and cd's, and tells you where the closest library that has it is. not only this, but if the item is quite a distance away and you're having second thoughts as to whether you want to drive (& waste the over priced gas), you can put in an ILL request.

thing 9

i really like the fact that you can access the RSS feeds w/o the commercialization. i have noticed when i log into my yahoo email account, they have it there too. i can simply add my favorite website(s) if they have the news feed icon. this really cuts down time fishing through all the ads and possible pop ups. i like topix, better than syndic8 b/c with topix, they give a brief description of each link. syndic8 only lists the various things that your keyword appears in. i dont think i would use either one in everyday use as i would with my yahoo account, but now i know that they are available.

wikid wikipedia

this exercise can prove to be useful for me outside of the library. i can use the discussion and history tabs when doing research for school items such as homework and papers. it'll give me an idea as to how accurate the page is and the different changes. so i will definitely use this, and as much as i use wikipedia i havent noticed those additional tabs. thanks.

thing 15

now i dont feel this exercise really has to do with me b/c im not a librarian. however, in reading 3 of the persepctives i did learn something new. i learned about Library 3.0 - Web 3D. i didnt know about 3-D on the web. or if i did know about it, i didnt pay any mind to it or didnt think of it as 3-D. and i was surprised as to the statistic about people spending 40+ hours a week online. the perspective about corporate was interesting too.

techno-rati...??

i don't really like this website. its sort of blah to me. i typed in "Learning 2.0" in the search box, but nothing came up that interested me. i clicked on the "2¢" blog and there was nothing of interest or knowledge value to me. i wouldnt use this website again in my personal time.

del.icio.us

this website took some getting used to, but once i found things that interested me, i understood how it works and what its purpose is for. it allows people to group things together and put up postings about things. its a good site.

NetLibrary

I glanced @ NetLibrary and the glance that i took was interesting. i didnt flip through the entire book, but it seems like you could read a book online if its available via NetLibrary. pretty cool and yes i think i could show/teach people how to use it if/when i interact with the public.

Library Things

my LibrayThings took some time for me to get 5 books, but i did it. it wasnt that the site was difficult (ok well i did have trouble finding my Rocky Stories book). not sure what else to "blog" about so its a (w)rap.

thing # 10

here i am supposed to blog about anything tech related...so here it goes. a few months back (perhaps even longer) a tv show had a piece on tech gadgets. the coolest tech gadget was Microsoft Surface. its a tabletop computer, but unlike any other computer out there. it is basically a touch screen that lays flat on the table. with it you can share pictures, music, set a wi-fi camera down on it and pull out pictures just taken, and even order food/drinks. you can even pay the check via Surface. when on vacation, you may come across it since Microsoft has partnered up with restauraunt and hotel chains to test it.

"really simple" RSS

today i did thing #8, the RSS feed. at first it was a bit tricky. i had to get used to it, but i think i have the process down. i have some pretty cool sites that have this RSS feed. i even look out for the RSS emblem/symbol when i am visiting sites that i frequent. if i find that a site has one, i simply add it to my blogline feed, and there i have it minus the ads and other junk.

Washed Up Love

I picked this photo because tis awesome. The colors are captivating and the creature is remarkable. It looks as if it were fake. As remarkable as it looks, steer clear of the Portuguese man-of-war.
